The YES Network is an international association of early-career geoscientists who are primarily under the age of 35 years and are from universities, geoscience organizations and companies from across the world. The YES Network was formed as a result of the International Year of Planet Earth in 2007. In 2009, in collaboration with the IYPE and under the patronage of UNESCO, the YES Network organized its first international Congress at the China University of Geosciences in Beijing, China. Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction 2016, New Delhi, India

logo-amcdrr-may16This first Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction after the advent of the Sendai Framework will be hosted by the Government of India in November 2016. As a follow-up from the 6th Asian Ministerial Conference outcome (2014) and as a requirement of the Sendai Framework, the intended outcome of the conference in India will be to adopt an ‘Asia Regional Plan for Implementation of the Sendai Framework’.

The 7th ASEAN Working Group on Climate Change (AWGCC), was successfully held from 20-21 July 2016, at Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. The attendance comprises of ASEAN country focal points to AWGCC and Malaysian government partners. The meeting was hosted by Government of Malaysia, with a technical support from Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Malaysia, as a country focal point to AWGCC. The welcome address was delivered by Hon. YBhg. Dato’ Sri Azizan bin Ahmad, Secretary General of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Malaysia.  Continue reading →

1st Asian Science and Technology Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction


ASTAAG Conference_BangkokThe 1st Asian Science and Technology Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction will be held on 23-24 August 2016, in Bangkok Thailand. The Conference will be organised by the Hydro and Agro Informatics Institute (HAII), a public organisation under Thailand’s Ministry of Science and Technology, and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR). They will be supported by UNISDR’s Asian Science Technology and Academia Advisory Group (ASTAAG), Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR), Future Earth, a research initiative on global environment change and sustainability, and other scientific organisations and networks. Final Planning Workshop on Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation in Southeast Asia

IMG_0726The Final Planning Workshop on Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation in Southeast Asia was held in Hotel Jen Manila, Philippines, on 14-15 October 2015, with participants comprising government partners and science partners from ASEAN countries, as well as representatives of India’s counterpart to the ASEAN Working Group on Climate Change (AWGCC) and the ASEAN Secretariat. This workshop was organized in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, Asian Network on Climate Science and Technology (ANCST), Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN), University of the Philippines Los Banõs (UPLB), and University of the Philippines Diliman. Consultation Workshop on “Local Level Needs and Priorities for Climate Change Adaptation”

The consultation workshop was held on 14 September 2015, at Danau Golf Club, UKM Bangi. The Workshop was an activity of the Project on Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation in Southeast Asia (Phase 1) funded by the ASEAN-India Green Fund, and implemented by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Research Initiative (SEADPRI-UKM). The Workshop was organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) and SEADPRI-UKM. The purpose of the Workshop was to discuss national strategies and challenges in addressing climate change adaptation and identify 3-5 local level initiatives to be considered for funding by the ASEAN-India Green Fund under the ASEAN Regional Work Programme on Climate Change Adaptation.
